The TB12 Method
by Tom Brady

The #1 New York Times bestseller by the 6-time Super Bowl champion

The first book by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady—the 6-time Super Bowl champion who is still reaching unimaginable heights of excellence at 41 years old—a gorgeously illustrated and deeply practical “athlete’s bible” that reveals Brady’s revolutionary approach to sustained peak performance for athletes of all kinds and all ages.

In modern sports, some athletes have managed to transcend their competition in a way that no one will ever forget: Jordan. Jeter. Ali. Williams. These elite legends have changed the game, achieved the unthinkable, and pushed their bodies to unbelievable limits. Joining their exclusive ranks is Tom Brady.

“Brady is the healthiest great champion the NFL has ever had, both physically and mentally” (Sally Jenkins, The Washington Post). The longtime New England Patriots quarterback, who in 2017 achieved his fifth Super Bowl win and fourth Super Bowl MVP award, is widely regarded as an athlete whose training and determination pushed him from a mediocre draft position to the most-revered and respected professional football player of his generation.

In The TB12 Method, Tom Brady explains how he developed his groundbreaking approach to long-term fitness, presenting a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to his personal practice. Brady offers the principles behind pliability, which is at the heart of a new paradigm shift and movement toward a more natural, healthier way of exercising, training, and living—and one that challenges some commonly held assumptions around health and wellness. Filled with lessons learned from Brady’s own peak performance training, and step-by-step action steps to help readers develop and maintain their own peak performance, The TB12 Method also advocates for more effective approaches to strength training, hydration, nutrition, supplementation, cognitive fitness, recovery, and other lifestyle choices that dramatically decrease the risk of injury while amplifying and extending performance, as well as quality of life.

After using his methods for over a decade, Brady believes that the TB12 approach has made him—and can make any athlete, male or female, in any sport and at any level—achieve their own peak performance. With instructions, drills, photos, in-depth case studies that Brady himself has used, as well as personal anecdotes and experiences from on and off the field, The TB12 Method is the only book an athlete will ever need, a playbook from Brady himself that will change the game.

Introduction

I decided to write this book when I saw a number of my friends following fatty diets with no proteins, low calories, no carbohydrates or anything else being promoted by any sort of person who called himself a dietitian and had good PR behind him.

And I began to think. If these people were put in situations when they could not get food to eat, and had to survive with their body starving, they would not treat food with such casual contempt. However, they were starving their bodies of essential nutrients out of sheer ignorance. They wanted to get thin. Many of them were genetically programmed towards obesity. Others began gaining weight due to the body reaching a stage when it was in such a desperate condition that malnutrition had set in. And that is why it was putting on weight as a last resort in order to protect the body from any sort of future starvation.

This book is going to tell you all about ancient food eating practices followed by the wise men of yore. If you say, I cannot do without my potato chips, or my sugar fix, well, you are not ready to live a lifestyle which were followed by our ancestors all over the world, millenniums ago. They ate nourishing food. And they were thankful for what they got. They did not bother much about silly newfangled ideas about calories and in the amounts of calories required to keep you healthy and strong. This of course is a fallacy and is a silly myth, which I am going to explain to you later on, but at the moment I am going to tell you more about how foods were used to heal a number of diseases down the ages, and naturally.

Household dietary patterns and the cost of a nutritious diet in Myanmar
by Mahrt, Kristi, Mather, David, Herforth, Anna, Headey, Derek D.

Despite significant poverty reduction over the past decade, undernutrition in Myanmar remains widespread. Food prices play an important role in influencing diets and nutrition outcomes, especially for poorer households. In this study, we use national household food expenditure data to assess dietary patterns and estimate regional costs of nutritious diets in Myanmar relative to a recommended diet derived from food-based dietary guidelines. We estimate these costs following the cost of a recommended diet method (CoRD), which is based on minimum food group prices. We also develop and demonstrate an extension of this method using food group prices that reflect typical food consumption preferences (CoRD-FP). We assess the affordability of the recommended diet by comparing observed household food expenditure to the CoRD and the CoRD-FP. In 2015, 52 percent of the Myanmar population lived in households with food expenditure below the CoRD-FP, compared to 70 percent in 2010. Even the CoRD, which measures the lowest possible cost of meeting the recommended diet, exceeded household food expenditure for 32 and 24 percent of the population in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Low affordability is driven by high costs of animal-source foods and vegetables, which account for half the CoRD-FP. A majority of households over-consume staples and under-consume micronutrient-dense food groups. This imbalance is driven in part by the high caloric price of nutrient-dense foods relative to rice. The inability of more than half of households in Myanmar to afford a recommended diet at existing food expenditure levels suggests the need for policies that reduce the prices of micronutrient-dense foods, ideally through pro-poor improvements in agricultural productivity and marketing.

Clarification: Calcium Carbonate

We’ve had some questions from readers regarding the use of the term “calcium carbonate,” which is listed as an ingredient in a number of the diets found in this book, and therefore wanted to clarify what is meant by this ingredient. Baking soda comes in two forms: sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate. The sodium bicarbonate version is widely available as “baking soda” and is commonly used in baking, but none of the recipes in this book use it as an ingredient.  The calcium carbonate version of baking soda is sometimes sold as “baking soda substitute” and sometimes referred to as simply “baking soda.”

To avoid confusing sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, any time the calcium carbonate type of baking soda has been used in a diet in this book, the ingredient includes the specific term “calcium carbonate.”  There are several manufacturers of calcium carbonate baking soda; for example, Amazon carries the Ener-G Foods product baking soda substitute. Calcium carbonate can also be sold for garden use, which is non-food-grade, so to avoid the use of the garden product in foods, the term “baking soda” was used in this book instead to indicate that readers should be sure to select a food-appropriate ingredient.

Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Guide: With DASH Diet Recipes and DASH Diet Slow Cooker Cookbook
by Gabriel Chavez

March 1, 2014.  The DASH Diet shows significant improvements in reducing kidney stone formation conditions as compared with conventional low-oxalate diets.

January 3, 2014. US News & World Report selects the DASH diet as the best diet for the 4th year in a row.

November 12, 2013. The new guidelines for preventing heart disease and strokes, from The American Heart Association and The American College of Cardiology recommend the DASH diet.

Why has the DASH diet been ranked as the best diet, the healthiest diet, and the best diet for diabetes, 4 years in a row? The expert panel of physicians assembled by US New & World Reports chose DASH because it is proven to improve health, has a balance of healthy food groups, and it actually works.

It has been proven to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and is associated with lower risk of several types of cancer, heart disease, stroke, heart failure, kidney stones, reduced risk of developing diabetes, and can slow the progression of kidney disease.

Hypertension is called the “silent killer” because about one-third of the people with it DO NOT KNOW that they have it. One in every four adults — some 50 million people in the USA alone — have high blood pressure.

High blood pressure often has no warning signs or symptoms.Once it occurs it usually lasts a lifetime. Research has shown that following a healthy eating plan can both reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure and lower an already elevated blood pressure. If uncontrolled, it can leadto heart and kidney disease and stroke.

Those diagnosed with high blood pressure especially benefit.Actually ALL ADULT could follow this heart healthy plan and benefit.
